Profile of Beijing Industry

Development Environment

Beijing is an important transportation hub of China.

highways, airways and transportation leading to various ports radiate in all directions.

Railway: Beijing is one of the largest railway hubs of China. It has opened through trains leading to most large and medium cities in China. Major trunk railways of China such as Beijing-Kowloon, Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Harbin railways all converge in Beijing. With two major passenger stations (Beijing Station and Beijing East Station) and two auxiliary stations (Beijing South Station and Beijing North Station), the hub is capable of undertaking the task of receiving and sending 222~290 couples of trains. Five railway freight marshalling stations including Shuangqiao Station, Huairou North Station, Shijingshan South Station, Fengtai Station and Sanjiadian Station undertake the railway freight marshaling. The freight yards are characterized by reasonable layout, explicit split of disciplines and integration with road freight transportation hubs.

Highway: Beijing has a complete primary hub system of road transportation. The highway network system consists of national highways, municipal highways, county highways, township highways and dedicated highways. Highways are connected to city roads at the Fifth Ring. There are presently 11 national highways, of which 7 are expressways leading to all places of the whole country. Based on the main orientations of long distance freight transportation, primary junction center stations are set up respectively at the south east and south west of the city to undertake the grouping/de-grouping and relay operation of trans-provincial freight transportation. Secondary junction stations are set up near the Fifth Ring road. Freight business handling spots are set up in the urban area and exurban satellite towns. Intensive management is exercised for transportation.

Port: There are three ports in the periphery of Beijing. The Tianjing Port is 162km distant from Beijing and has a water depth of 12m and an annual handling capacity of 0.12 billion tons. The Qinhuangdao Port is 340km distant from Beijing and has a water depth of 16.5m and an annual handling capacity of 0.11 billion tons. The Jingtang Port under construction is 230km distant from Beijing and has a water depth of 25m and a designed annual handling capacity up to ten thousand tons. The Beijing-Shenyang Expressway and the Beijing-Tianjing-Tanggu Expressway lead directly to the three ports.

Airway: Beijing is the junction center of airway lines of the whole country. The Capital Airport situated in the north east suburb of Beijing, 23.5km distant from the city center, is the airway hub and relay center of China. It is also the airport with the largest scale and most advanced facilities in Mainland China. It has opened 114 international airlines leading to 56 cities in 39 countries and regions. It has opened 136 domestic airlines covering all regions except Taiwan. The annual passenger handling capacity of the new terminal zone of the airport reaches 50 million men times, along with a freight and post handling capacity of 0.75 million tons. The number of takeoffs and landings reaches 190,000 sorties.
