Profile of Beijing Industry

Development Environment

Beijing has a complete fuel structure and supply system.

Since natural gas was introduced to Beijing from Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia in 1997, the natural gas consumption in Beijing has grown by 0.3-0.35 billion cubic meters per year. By 2002, the natural gas consumption reached 1.8 billion cubic meters; this is expected to hit 3.2 billion by 2005 and 5.0 million by 2008.

Trend of natural gas consumption in Beijing (unit: ??108 cubic meters/year)

Beijing has a sufficient supply of natural gas. Currently the North China Old Field in Bohai Sea Bay Basin is able to supply 0.2 billion m3/y natural gas to Beijing. The first long distance conveyance line from North Shaanxi is able to supply 2.4 billion m3/y of natural gas to Beijing, and the second long distance conveyance line, which is scheduled for completion in 2005, will be able to provide Beijing with 5.0 m3/y of natural gas after its completion. The overall scale of natural gas supply will reach 3.22 billion cubic meters in 2005 and 5.01 billion cubic meters in 2008. The proportion of quality fuels such as natural gas has increased year by year. With the change of the fuel structure, the environment in Beijing will improve gradually. The natural gas conveyance network consists of extra high pressure (2.5MPa), high pressure (1.0MPa), medium pressure (0.4MPa) and low pressure (0.005MPa) systems. After completion of the second long distance conveyance line from North Shaanxi to Beijing, a natural gas conveyance line will be established in the East Part Development Strip of Beijing laying along the Sixth Ring road with a pressure of 4.0MPa and pipe diameter of DN800, and natural gas will reach main areas of the East Part Development Strip of Beijing.
