Beijing has a good water supply and adjustment system

Beijing is located in the water system of the Haihe River. From east to west are distributed the water systems of the Jiyunhe canal, the Chaobai river, the Beiyunhe Canal, the Yongding river and the Daqing river respectively. Over the years the average water resource totals 3.629 billion cubic meters. The water systems of the Beiyunhe Canal and the Chaobai River in the east of Beijing have rich surface water and groundwater resource.

Beijing has a complete water resource development and supply system. There are 85 reservoirs in all, with a total reservoir capacity of 9.352 billion cubic meters, 2.622 billion of which is irrigated reservoir capacity. All these have provided stable water resource for surface water plants. The whole city has 17 water plants with ring networks covering all the range of water supply. Automatic flow rate adjustment can be realized between water plants to achieve replacement, complementation, water pressure balancing and safe and stable supply of water.

With the progressing of the project to divert water from the Yangtze River to north China, the water resource condition in Beijing region will be further improved. In spite of that, Beijing will still adhere to the principle of developing water saving industries.
