This sector has 63 enterprises and 3979 employees, respectively accounting for 36.2 percent and 21.9 percent of the urban industrial total. In 2003, the industry accomplished industrial output value of more than 2.03 billion Yuan, with sales revenue at over 1.60 billion Yuan, respectively accounting for 29.6 percent and 23.8 percent of the district??s urban industrial total.

(2)Pinggu District
a. General profile
Urban industry has come to be the leading industry in Pinggu District. By the end of 2003, this district already had 299 urban industrial enterprises, accomplishing current-price output value of 4.04 billion Yuan with 37,000 employees, respectively accounting for 43.5 percent, 53 percent and 63 percent of the district??s industrial total.
b. Major sectors
Food and beverage
There are five categories of wine, beverage, food production, food processing and brewing and health products. At present, this sector has 62 enterprises, an increase of 8 enterprises as compared with the year 2002. Their total assets increased from 1.34 billion Yuan in 2002 to 1.86 billion Yuan in 2003, with a net increase of 520 million. The output value in 2003 was 1.52 billion Yuan, while industrial revenue was 1.38 billion Yuan and profit tax was 260 million Yuan, respectively increasing 42 percent, 42 percent and 41 percent as compared with the previous year. In this industry, there are currently nine leading enterprises, including ?°Snow?± Beer, ?°Beijingyan?± Liquors, ?°Xuehao?± Mineral Water, ?°Huabang?±, ?°Pingle?± drink and fruit juice processing, WantWant Group, Laocaichen and Jishengke condiment brewing, and Qianxihe pig butchering and deep processing in both high and low temperature.

Clothing and textile

In 2003, this sector has 115 enterprises upon a certain scale, an increase of 21 enterprises as compared with the year 2002. Their total assets stood at 1 billion Yuan and their output value reached 1.43 billion Yuan, while industrial revenue was 1.29 billion Yuan and profit tax was 90 million Yuan, respectively increasing 9 percent, 32 percent, 34 percent and 84 percent as compared with the previous year. This industry had 20,000 employees in 2002, an increase of 2280 employees than the year 2002, which accounts for 34 percent of the district??s industrial employees and 53 percent of its urban industrial total. Clothing industry is led by Huayang Company and Huanaida Group, while textile industry is led by Jinbo Cashmire and Huaxia Woolen Mill.

Printing and packaging
The leading enterprises are Vinda Paper Co. Ltd., Empire Group, Pinggu Printing Factory, Laiwang Packaging and Shandongzhuang Carton Factory.

Recreation and sports products
Musical instruments production takes a leading role in this industry. Six of the nine enterprises in this category deal with musical instruments. With more than 3000 employees, they produced 150,000 violins and 30,000 folk musical instruments in 2003, bringing about output value of 120 million Yuan. Eighty percent of the products are exported to the US, South Korea, Japan, Germany and Taiwan. The leading enterprises are Huadong, Chang??an and Yisiman Musical Instruments Co. Ltd.

(3)Fengtai District
a. General profile
This district has 314 urban industrial enterprises with sales revenue of 2.45 billion Yuan and profit of 37.75 million Yuan in 2003.
b. Major sectors
Food and beverage
This sector has 86 enterprises, which is 27.4 percent of its urban industrial total. Their sales revenue in 2003 stood at 1.38 billion Yuan, 56 percent of the district??s urban industrial total, with a profit of 20.30 million Yuan. Such enterprises as Beijing Jingri Dongda Food Co. Ltd., Beijing Aisen Lubao Oil Co. Ltd., and Xilinmen Foodstuffs Co. Ltd. have led the steady growth of food and beverage enterprises in this district. Thirty-nine food processing enterprises among the total 86 food and beverage enterprises accomplished sales revenue of 658 million Yuan in 2003 with a profit of 27.71 million Yuan. Among them three enterprises have brought about sales revenue of more than 100 million Yuan, and five enterprises more than 50 million Yuan. In 2003, 18 beverage enterprises brought about sales revenue of 125 million Yuan with a profit of 2.97 million Yuan, while 29 farm produce and by-product processing enterprises brought about sales revenue of 594 million Yuan with a profit of 10.38 million.

Clothing and textile
This sector has 64 enterprises, accounting for 20 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. Their sales revenue in 2003 was 316 million Yuan, or 13 percent of the district??s urban industrial total, with a profit of 6.19 million Yuan. Among them, ten textile enterprises brought about sales revenue of 29.35 million Yuan in 2003, with a profit of 8.36 million. Eight leather and fur product enterprises turned about sales revenue of 49.11 million Yuan, with a profit of 570,000 Yuan. Forty-six clothing manufacturing and processing enterprises had sale revenue of 238 million Yuan with a profit of 1.60 million. The leading enterprises include Aobao Garments Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Shark Garment & Fashion Co. Ltd.
Printing and packaging

This sector has 66 enterprises, accounting for 21 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. Their sales revenue in 2003 was 392 million Yuan, or 16 percent of the district??s urban industrial total, with a profit of 35.54 million Yuan. In 2003, 12 paper making enterprises brought about sales revenue of 89.51 million Yuan with a profit of 650,000 Yuan. Fifty-four printing enterprises brought about sales revenue of 303 million Yuan with a profit of 34.89 million Yuan, which ranks the first among all sectors of the urban industry. The leading enterprises include Beijing Rich Unit Printing Co. Ltd., Beijing Jiaxunda Artistic Printing Co. Ltd., and Beijing Lianxing Shengye Printing Co. Ltd.
Furniture production
This sector has 31 enterprises, accounting for 19 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. Their sales revenue in 2003 was 75.24 million Yuan, or 0.3 percent of the district??s urban industrial total, with a profit of 2.63 million Yuan.
Plastic products
This sector has 50 enterprises, accounting for 15.9 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. Their sales revenue in 2003 was 184 million Yuan, or 0.75 percent of the district??s urban industrial total, with a profit of 6.90 million Yuan.

(4)Changping District
a. General profile
The district altogether has more than 50 urban industrial enterprises (among them 5 industrial enterprises are under the district government), which accomplished sales revenue of 258.94 million Yuan in 2003 with a profit of 7.78 million Yuan.
b. Major sectors
Food and beverage
This sector has 45 enterprises, which brought about industrial sales revenue of 240 million Yuan annually, accounting for 7 percent of the district??s township industry. The influential enterprises include: Daoxiangcun Foodstuffs Group, Zhihao Food Company, Suanling Welfare Meat Processing Plant and Beijing Jingjing Meat Plant.
Clothing and textile
This sector has 32 enterprises with an annual industrial output value at 320 million Yuan, accounting for 9.4 percent of the district??s township industry. Beijing Pendda Clothing Company takes a leading role in this sector.

This sector has 29 enterprises with an annual industrial output value at 160 million Yuan, accounting for 4.7 percent of the district??s township industry. Meihang Color Printing Company, Baishan Printing Factory and Jiashi Printing Co. Ltd. take a leading role in this sector.

This sector has 13 enterprises with an annual industrial output value at 60 million Yuan, accounting for 1.8 percent of the district??s township industry.
Furniture manufacturing
This sector has 32 enterprises with an annual industrial output value at 140 million Yuan, accounting for 4.1 percent of the district??s township industry. The influential enterprises include Kente Furniture Co. Ltd. and Natleer Furnitures BJ Co. Ltd.
Plastic products
This sector has 26 enterprises with an annual industrial output value at 80 million Yuan, accounting for 2.4 percent of the district??s township industry.

(5)Fangshan District
a. General profile
Fangshan District has formed a complete set of urban industry covering the whole nine categories of food and beverage, clothing and textile, printing and packaging, arts and crafts, furniture and home furnishing, household electric appliances, cleansing and cosmetics, recreation and sports products and plastic products. Food and beverage enterprises are mainly located in Liulihe Town and Changgou Town. Enterprises related to clothing and textile, printing and packaging, cleansing and cosmetics, recreation and sports products are mainly located in Liangxiang Industrial Development Area and Yancun town. Furniture and home furnishing enterprises are mainly located in Hancunhe Town. Arts and crafts enterprises are mainly located in Dashiwo Stone Carving Artistic, Business and Trade Park. Enterprises dealing with plastic products are mainly situated around the New Materials for Petrochemical Park. The district??s advantageous sectors include food and beverage, clothing and textile, plastic products and arts and crafts.

Food and beverage
This sector has 48 enterprises with total assets standing at over 711.92 million Yuan and 2391 employees, respectively accounting for 20 percent, 36 percent and 15.8 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. The main products include meat products like beef, mutton and pork, fruit juice drinks, liquors, beer, milk products, canned drink water, etc. The enterprises are mainly located in such towns as Doudian, Chengguan, Changgou, Liangxiang, Liulihe, Shidu, and Hebei. Beijing Zhuochen Husbandry Co. Ltd. and Beijing Lanbao Wine Brewing Co. Ltd. both bring about an annual revenue of nearly 100 million Yuan.
Clothing and textile
This sector has 48 enterprises with total assets standing at over 275.63 million Yuan and 5319 employees, respectively accounting for 20 percent, 14 percent and 35.2 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. The main product types include knit-goods, fabric clothes and leather clothes. The enterprises are mainly located in Hancunhe, Liulihe, Doudian, Liangxiang, Yancun, Qinglonghu, Chengguan, Zhoukoudian, Zhangfang and Liangxiang Industrial Development Area. There is one enterprise whose annual revenue exceeds 50 million Yuan: Beijing Kuailu Weaving Co. Ltd.
Plastic products
This sector has 73 enterprises with total assets standing at over 576.48 billion Yuan and 3599 employees, respectively accounting for 30 percent, 29 percent and 23.8 percent of the district??s urban industrial total. The main products include plastic products for farm use, plastic water-saving equipments, plastic packaging products and plastic products for daily use. The enterprises are mainly situated in such regions as Yanshan, Chengguan and Shilou. There are two enterprises whose annual revenue exceeds 50 million Yuan: Beijing Yanhua Xinlian Plastics Weaving Company and Beijing Yandi Plastics Co. Ltd.
Arts and Crafts
These products mainly refer to various stone carving products. Major types of products include city sculpture, tourism sculpture and furnishing products. ?°Development Outline for Beijing Arts and Crafts Industry?± has established Dashiwo Stone Carving Artistic, Business and Trade Park as one of the ?°four great projects?± to be implemented.

a. General Profile
In 2003, Chongwen District??s urban industry accomplished current-price output value of 970 million Yuan, with sales revenue at 900 million Yuan and a profit of 90 million, accounting for 36.9 percent, 29 percent and 20 percent of all the district??s industry upon a certain scale. The district has 45 urban industrial enterprises, which is 54.3 percent of all its enterprises upon a certain scale. There are 4 cleansing and cosmetic enterprises, 3 printing and packaging enterprises, 4 enterprises dealing with recreation and sports products and 3 furniture and home furnishing enterprises.

b. Major sectors
Food and beverage
There are 11 enterprises whose products mainly cover flour, drinks and cakes. Food and beverage enterprises account for 24 percent of the district??s urban industry. Vie De France (BJ) Foodstuffs Co. Ltd. and Beijing Chunzhiguang Nutritious Food Center take a leading role in this industrial sector.
Clothing and textile
This sector has 16 enterprises, which accounts for 35 percent of urban industry upon a certain scale. The current-price output value and sales revenue of this sector in 2003 respectively accounted for 25 percent and 29.3 percent of that of the entire urban industry. The above-mentioned two indexes rose 50.5 percent and 29.7 percent respectively as compared with that of the year 2002. The enterprises are mostly privately owned, joint venture, cooperation or Wholly foreign-owned. Beijing Zhuangzi Industrial and Trade Co. Ltd. and Beijing Chaolongda Scientific Development Company have both produced good economic returns.
Arts and crafts
Apart from the four enterprises upon a certain scale like Beijing Enamel Factory, there also exist nearly 10 smaller enterprises in the arts and crafts sector. The ?°Four Famous Characters?± in arts and crafts market, ivory carving, jade article, cloisonn¨? and carved lacquerware, have been deeply rooted in this district. Beijing Jingcheng Baigongfang Artwork Co. Ltd. Beiing Huajiang Cultural Development Co. Ltd., Beijing Enamel Factory and Beijing Jade Factory all play a leading role in this sector.

Its industrial output value stood at 152.50 million Yuan in 2003, while industrial added value at 44.57 million Yuan, sales revenue at 147.90 million Yuan and profit at 5.69 million Yuan. There are mainly 6 enterprises: Zhuo??ou Clothing, Jinshangmeng Fashion Co. Ltd., Kainuo Science and Technology Co. Ltd., Xueyu Tianjiao Cashmere Production Co. Ltd., and Xiaxin knit Fashion Co. Ltd.
Food and beverage
Its industrial output value stood at 92.47 million Yuan in 2003, while industrial added value at 27.74 million Yuan, sales revenue at 89.74 million Yuan and profit at 3.86 million Yuan.
